A fave spot and a new spot…

Monday was such wonderful weather in downtown Buffalo!  After going for a 3 mile run around the village, I stopped at Saigon Cafe for some take out (a yummy Thai favorite) and a new place Gelateria Luca for some dessert.

Saigon Cafe is located across from Pano’s Restaurant between Bird Ave. and Forest Ave.  I love the Basil Fried Rice with brown rice and scallops!  You can add any seafood or meat if you so choose.  http://www.thesaigoncafe.com/

Then I stopped at Gelateria Luca located on the corner of Potomac Ave and Elmwood Ave.  They opened only 3 months ago and have great gelato and sweet Italian treats!  Of course I tried my favorite dessert, cannoli.  I appreciated that they we not pre-filled (since the pastry can get soggy and the filling can dry out) but I didn’t like the filling a much as I thought I would.  It was missing the cheesy, ricotta flavor I love so much 😦  Dispite my disappointment, i will go back for more goodies because I sampled a few items and thought they were delicious!  I encourage you to stop by.  I wonder sometimes how many of these types of sweet shops will survive on Elmwood – so many places offer similar choices (e.g. Dolci Bakery, Zillycakes).  http://www.facebook.com/GelateriaLucaBuffalo?ref=stream

Small business – BIG convenience!

I thought about a few places I like to frequent in EV but may not have too much to say about each of them in seperate posts.  So here is a small list of places I find to be most convenient about living in EV:

Karma Salon – http://www.facebook.com/pages/Karma-Salon-Spa/103999829639920 – I really like the folks at Karma Salon especially my gal, Charlene!  She can do it all from hair, to nails to waxing.  I have been going to her since I moved to the village and appreciate their services, convience, and ease of scheduling an appointment.

Penzy’s Spices – http://www.penzeys.com/ – Although Penzy’s is a chain store in various states, it has a unique, boutique feel to its store.  They offer recipes in their stores (using there products, of course) and they are very reasonably priced.  I’d much rather purchase their spices and ingredients than go to a Tops or Wegmans for them.  Perfect for gifts, too!  …hint, hint

The Tree House – http://www.thetreehousetoystore.com/about-us/ – OMG this place is awesome!!  Looking for a gift for the child who has everything?  Or maybe a gift for an adult that acts like a child?  This is the place to go!  They have creative kits for art, crafts, science, etc.  Games galore!  Stuffed animals, puzzles, books!  Check it out, you won’t regret it!

Positively Main Street – think Spencer’s (without the gross sex stuff) and you’ve got a quirky, fun place to buy sarcastic, humerous merchandise.

Clutch – http://www.facebook.com/CLUTCHaccessories – This is a cute boutique with accessories like Born in Buffalo tees, earrings, headbands, scarves, purses, hats, tights, necklaces, etc.  Unique items you won’t find anywhere else 🙂

If you have visted these places, let me know what you think about them and what you purchased!
